Healthy mince pies

When it comes to Christmas food, I’m obsessed with mince pies.

They come a very close second to marzipan, which is why I was excited to make these almond flour mince pies with homemade filling and an almond flour crumble topping.

Not only do they replicate the delicious almond taste of marzipan, they contain zero refined sugar, so they’re actually a version of healthier mince pies – amazing!

Since I’m not really much of a baker, I’ll say right now that I didn’t come up with the almond flour pastry or the homemade filling recipes. The almond flour shortcrust pastry came from The Healthy Chef Teresa Cutter, while the homemade filling came from Natasha Corrett of Honestly Healthy Food (tip: if you have any left over definitely try using the filling in overnight oats!)

However, I did top the mince pies with my own almond flour crumble topping recipe, which you could do as well if you don’t fancy an all-pastry crust. Here’s how you make it:


Tops 10 mince pies

  • 100g almond flour
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 50g coconut palm sugar
  • 50g coconut oil
  • pinch of sea salt


Sooo easy! Tip all of the ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Get in there with your hands and rub between your thumbs and fingers until you have a crumbly mixture.

Top your mince pies and bake as instructed. Enjoy!
