So I’ve been kinda quiet on here lately! I wish I could say it’s because I’ve been happily cooking up new and exciting recipes in the kitchen for you, but that would be a lie. The truth is, I’ve been totally and utterly stressed!
There are two types of people in this world – those who embrace their awkwardness until it becomes part of their natural personality, and those who are so aware of it, that everything little awkward thing they do seems 10 times amplified.
I, for sure, belong to the latter group!
Last weekend I went to see Inside Out. Kids’ movies aren’t usually my thing, but I was curious to see how a movie could distil a whole range of human emotions into just five characters.
Apparently, pretty well!
If you don’t know the movie’s plot line, I’ll attempt to explain it to you.

Those that know us (and regular readers of the blog) may recall we’ve been trying to walk to this reservoir from where we live for a while now. But every time we’ve been thwarted by poor signposting, busy roads and – in our latest, possibly most terrifying attempt – cows.

I’ve had lots of ideas for posts swimming around in my head for the last month (and even some new recipes!) but basically no time collect my thoughts and put fingertips to keyboard.
As I write, I’m desperately trying to get to work on time to clear the ever-growing ‘to do’ list – but I’m stuck in major train delays. Annoying when that happens, right?
I started thinking about giving up sugar halfway through last year.
Inspired by people who’d quit the sweet stuff completely – and felt mentally and physically better for it – I wanted to see what kind of an impact it would have on my mood and my anxiety.
So, at the start of 2015, I finally bit the bullet and decided to try to live life sugar free for 31 days.
Well, I’ve found another way to relax in seasonal style – an essential oils Christmas blend!
Ain’t no doubt about it, preparing for Christmas can be fun, but stressful!
From entertaining the family to finding the perfect pressie, there’s a lot to think about, and a lot to do.
Couple that with a much higher than average partying to resting ratio, and I’m sure I won’t be the only one who’s completely exhausted come the big day!
This year though, I’m heading into the festive season armed and fully prepared (well, as prepared as an anxiety sufferer can be!) to overcome my most common seasonal stresses. (more…)
What’s your favourite smell? I have two: frankincense, because it reminds me of getting a massage, and pine, because it reminds of me of collecting pine cones on family holidays at Center Parcs (we went there nearly every year growing up!)
I’ll bet if you think about your favourite smell, it’s associated with a happy memory. And if you think about your least favourite smell, there’s probably a bad memory associated with that too.
That’s the first thing I learn about using essential oils – you have to like the smell. It sounds obvious, but I quickly made that mistake.
