Let me introduce you to an oft neglected aspect of the Christmas Day dinner – the Christmas vegetables.
In my opinion, the veg part of the traditional turkey table gets a pretty bad rep. They’re usually blandly boiled or roasted – and anything green is automatically out (no one ever wants to eat more sprouts than they need to!) Then there’s the potato overload. I can’t think of any other time of year when I wouldn’t feel guilty about eating double potatoes, but at Christmas I always go for a good helping of roasted and mashed!
The Christmas decorations are finally up!
If I had my way, the flat would be festive from December 1. But being married to a man with a mid-December birthday means delaying the lights and tinsel until after the birthday celebrations are over.
I suppose that’s fair enough, but I still can’t help feeling a tad jealous when other people start posting tree selfies on Facebook before I’ve even got mine out of the cupboard!

It’s kind of a contentious one in our household. My music taste is inherently ‘poppy’, Mr Rinroad’s is inherently not!
So, after much to-ing and fro-ing (not over the playlist as a whole, just whether or not it should feature a Mariah Carey classic!) last year we settled on the perfect compromise Christmas playlist.
Ain’t no doubt about it, preparing for Christmas can be fun, but stressful!
From entertaining the family to finding the perfect pressie, there’s a lot to think about, and a lot to do.
Couple that with a much higher than average partying to resting ratio, and I’m sure I won’t be the only one who’s completely exhausted come the big day!
This year though, I’m heading into the festive season armed and fully prepared (well, as prepared as an anxiety sufferer can be!) to overcome my most common seasonal stresses. (more…)
