2014 favourites

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

I had a fab time back home with my family, eating my weight in delicious food and losing card tournaments! It seemed to go waaaay too quickly though, kind of like this year. Seriously, where has 2014 gone?

Merry Christmas!

Blogmas 2014 montageI’m sure you have much better things to do than read a long blog post on Christmas Day, so I’ll keep this short and sweet!

Thank you so much for reading my 25 days of blogmas posts (especially if you kept coming back for more!) If you fancy a recap inbetween all the present-opening and Christmas cake, here are my top 10 posts.

‘Mulled wine’ smoothie

It’s been a while since I posted a new smoothie recipe.

They’re amazing for packing nutrients into your body at the start of the day – fill them up with fruit and large handfuls of veg and you’ve got a delicious healthy treat to fuel your body with at breakfast.

So, knowing the inevitable spread of overindulgence that awaits us all tomorrow (not that I’m complaining at all!), I thought I’d create a seasonal smoothie treat to fuel the body with on Christmas morning.

Introducing my ‘mulled wine’ smoothie!

The pros and cons of going cold turkey

I’m a sucker for a New Year’s resolutions list.

I make one every year, and stick to none of the things that are on it, but I’ll still be back for more as soon as January rolls round again!

This year, though, I’m weighing up my options. The first month of a new year is a great time to go ‘cold turkey’ and cut out those unhealthy habits, but is it really the best way to make a lasting lifestyle change?

A Christmas gift workout

Christmas present

No weights to hand for your workout this Christmas? No problem, try a Christmas gift workout instead!

There’s always one present under the tree that’s bigger and heavier than the rest (and let’s hope that one’s for you!) Why not use it to add a festive twist to your home holiday workouts?

Here are a few moves you could try.*

Healthier mince pies with crumble topping

Healthy mince pies

When it comes to Christmas food, I’m obsessed with mince pies.

They come a very close second to marzipan, which is why I was excited to make these almond flour mince pies with homemade filling and an almond flour crumble topping.

Not only do they replicate the delicious almond taste of marzipan, they contain zero refined sugar, so they’re actually a version of healthier mince pies – amazing!

Sweet potato goat’s cheese mash

Sweet potato mash

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Christmas is the only time when I have an excuse to eat twice as much potato for dinner!

I love my roasties, and I love my mash, but I’m sure that both are the main players in the food coma I annually find myself in following a good Christmas dinner.

So, why not replace traditional mashed potato with a slightly lighter sweet potato mash? (more…)
